“A fanatic is a person who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject.”
Winston Churchill
The Law
“It is better to be a mouse in a cat’s mouth than a man in a lawyer’s hands.”
Spanish proverb
“An ounce of prevention…….”
The saying “ An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is not true in law. In law “ an ounce of prevention is worth a TON of cure”. This is no exaggeration. The amount of money, suffering and misery you can save by proper and timely planning is earth shattering.
Planning in law keeps all options open and available while closing off potential problems or catastrophes. The old saying is true:
“Failing to plan is planning to fail.”
With the Estate tax minimum being 11.7 million per individual and 23.4 million per couple, it is not necessary for most people to do elaborate estate planning. Most people need wills, living wills, HIPAA’s, and a Medical Power of Attorney.
Having a will does not mean you have to open a probate. A little planning can avoid the need for probate, but it is prudent to have a will. This is an area where a little planning can go a long way. Get out in front of these issues by having these documents prepared and then executed.
SnakeBite: Prevent legal problems and create legal opportunities that otherwise would not exist by proper and timely planning. Big, big, big saver of headaches, heartaches and money.
The Library
“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them.” Mark Twain
Have you ever heard of neuroplasticity? How about neurogenesis? If you are concerned about protecting your brain and even increasing your mental capabilities then here is the book you must read:
The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge
This is a truly exciting book. Mental decline is NOT inevitable, You can actually increase memory and other cognitive functions. Buy, read and study this book. Grow your brain. Learn the best exercise for an aging brain. It’s in the book.
Good Vibrations
Celine Dion has a version of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face recorded years ago by Roberta Flack. Celine’s version is available on YouTube. Running time is 4:10. Look for Celine’s red dress. This is one of the great voices ever and her rendition of this classic is inspired.
Three Roads
The word “deadline” originated in the Civil War prisons. Lines were drawn and prisoners passing them risked getting shot.
The Last Word
The Last Word goes to SnakeBites:
The best question you can ask a lawyer is “What should I do?” The worst question you can ask a lawyer is “What should I have done?”
John
