The Law

“It is better to be a mouse in a cat’s mouth than a man in a lawyer’s hands.”

Spanish proverb

Juries Give Plaintiffs Money

It is funny to me the difference between the way lawyers are trained to see a judgment and how laymen see it. Lawyers are taught a judgment is compensation given to a plaintiff for his loss. Juries think in terms of “giving” plaintiffs an award. What difference does it make? Well to you maybe nothing but it is critical to understanding how juries work. Here is the critical point that many lawyers do not get:

Juries do not reward people they do not like.

This is critical in how a case is tried and important if you ever find yourself in court as a litigant. A lawyer must do everything he can to make sure his client attracts the jury and does not alienate them. Juries try very hard to be fair and to apply the law but they “give: money to plaintiffs or not.

SnakeBite: If you find yourself in court as a litigant, remember the jury as well as the court is looking at you. You are judged on your appearance, your demeanor, your body language and if you fail the test, you will suffer the consequences.

Awake in the Dark

Florence Foster Jenkins is a movie starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. Florence was a New York socialite/philanthropist/singer during the Roaring Twenties and 1930s, Florence’s voice is like no voice you have ever heard. This movie is a lot of fun. It is worth your time.

Good Vibrations

Ann and Nancy Wilson are sisters from Seattle. You know them as the group, Heart. This blog is too short to list their hits. But let’s be clear: Ann Wilson can sing some and Nancy Wilson knows her way around a guitar.

In December of 2012 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. the rock group Led Zeppelin was among the honorees.

Heart performed the Led Zeppelin anthem “Stairway to Heaven” The running time is 7:59. It is available on You Tube; make sure you get the right version by checking the running time.

If you are a Heart fan, this is a MUST SEE. If you are not familiar with Heart, this is a great introduction to two very talented sisters.

Three Roads

In the history of the Olympic games only 35 people have won ten(10) or more medals. Michael Phelps, American swimmer, won 28 medals; 23 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze. The runner up won 18, 8 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze. No one has won 10 gold medals other than Michael Phelps.

The Last Word

The Last Word goes to Albert Einstein:

“I believe in intuitions and inspirations. I sometimes feel I am right. I `` do not know that I am.”
