“No diet will remove all the fat from your body because the brain is
entirely fat. Without a brain you might look good but all you could do is run
for public office.”
Covert Bailey
The Law
“It is better to be a mouse in a cat’s mouth than a man in a lawyer’s hands.”
Spanish proverb
It is never too early to see a lawyer
Suppose you have an aging parent you suspect has incipient Alzheimer’s. What should you do? If you suspect or have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s you need a lawyer who specializes in Elder Law. This is a new area of the law but has many practitioners in larger metropolitan areas. You can qualify for government support but only if you act prudently and in a timely fashi
on. You’ve got issues such as guardianship. Do you need one?
The issues in elder law require expertise in the specific issues the elderly have. The government has requirements on assets and how you can legally divest yourself of them and qualify for help. It must be done correctly and timely. Specific trusts can be set up but you cannot delay. It is never a problem to be too early seeing a lawyer. No harm ever results from this. I am not even sure you can be too early. Do not delay. If you think you need to see a lawyer, you do.
SnakeBite: Don’t delay seeing a lawyer because you are not sure you need one. If you think you might need a lawyer, you need a lawyer. A good lawyer will tell you when it is time. That is her job; so let her do that.
The Library
“The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them.” Mark Twain
Miracle in Philadelphia by Catherine Drinker Bowen,
The story of the Constitutional convention is a classic. The convention met in Philadelphia from May 14, 1787 until September 17, 1787. The author tells the story of how the US Constitution came to be negotiated, drafted and ultimately ratified. This is an easy book to read. It goes into personalities
and issues in this miracle that launched our country. If you want to learn more about our Constitution start with this book.
Good Vibrations
Carole King is one of the greatest songwriters ever. Her album “Tapestry” is among the greatest ever recorded. Of all the songs written by this musical marvel, the one perhaps most recorded is “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” The song meets any possible criteria for being a classic.
If you love music, you may have your own favorite version by your favorite singer. BUT if you have not heard the BeeGees sing this song, google it. The You Tube video is set in a recording studio and the running time is 5:09. Magnificent.
The Last Word
The Last Word goes to James Madison:
“There is no maxim in my opinion more likely to be misapplied and which therefore needs more elucidation than the current one that the interest of the majority is the political standard of right and wrong.”
Slither on,
John
