The judicial system is not Burger King

Many of you believe the judicial system is Burger King. It is not. Here are some of the differences:

1. At Burger King the staff make sure you get exactly what you wanted at the price you wanted and in the time you wanted. Courts have dockets that set out when certain events will occur. Courts get to you when it is your turn.

2. Burger King knows you can get your onion rings somewhere else so they make sure you are pleased with the products and service. Courts are government monopolies and you have no other place to go. (Although I favor a good gunfight, this seems to be out of favor.)

3. Burger King is a franchise and therefor you can count on certain practices being consistent between franchises. Courts are run by judges. While there are some standing orders that are common to the courts of that county, each court is run by a judge as she sees fit. All judges refer to “my court” as if they owned it.

4. When you leave Burger King, they make sure that you know they want you to come back. When you leave court, they would prefer you never return.

SnakeBite: The judicial system is a cattle drive with you as one of the herd. Forget happiness and try to limit your unhappiness. If you find yourself in court something has gone terribly wrong. Accept your part in your situation; learn from it; then go home and watch Boston Legal reruns where the judicial system is actually quite amusing.

If your tastes in reading include history, you must read Battle Cry of Freedom by James M. McPherson. In my opinion it is the best one volume about the American Civil War. McPherson taught at Princeton and the University of Virginia. This book won a Pulitzer. Obviously assiduously researched Battle Cry answers every question one might have about this conflict and provides insight you would otherwise never have. This is one of the best history books ever written----- any subject.

Good Vibrations

People of a certain seasoning grew up with the Beach Boys. They produced a great sound in the sixties that made you feel like you were on the beach ready to catch a wave. One of my favorite Beach Boy songs is “Don’t Worry Baby” and now Lorrie Morgan, has lent her great voice to this song, with the Beach Boys singing back up. The video is on You Tube showing Lorrie and the Boys in a recording studio and ending onstage during a concert. RT is 3:17. Lorrie’s smile tells it all: “Wow, do you believe I am singing with the Beach Boys?”
